Find Your Genius
Find Your Genius
In early Roman tradition it was believed that every person was born with their own Genius. This Genius is defined as certain gifting or skill an individual would naturally posses. The Romans would often describe their Genius as a piece of the Devine in their own life. And even though everyone is born with a Genius, sometimes it can be hard to discover. My goal is to help you find it. Let’s dive in.
Understand What You Do Not Like
A mentor once told me that, “The best way to find out what you like, is by understanding what you don’t like.” When I heard this advice in high school I became laser focused on trying as many new things as possible. I mowed lawns, hung Christmas lights, made snow cones, cleaned out apartments, and even tried to sell insurance. With each endeavor I embarked on, I learned more and more about what I liked and didn’t like. If you do not know what you like to do then try understanding what you do not like to do. This will shorten the list of opportunities to help you discover your Genius while also gaining valuable experiences.
Leverage Others
It was tradition in the ancient Roman culture for close friends and family to carefully watch their kids grow up. As the years went by the friends and family would begin to call out their kid’s Genius on their birthday. This powerful tradition would empower the kids to grow in their natural ability and ultimately walk into their own Genius. While this tradition is no longer around today the lesson is still true. Often times people close to you are able to see your Genius before you are. Therefore, if you are looking to discover your talents, skills, and gifting I challenge you to ask those around you. Earlier this year I sent out a simple email to my Tribe asking them to help me discover my strengths. The responses I received blew me away and opened my mind to ideas, dreams, and callings I had never considered. If you are looking to find your Genius I highly recommend putting yourself out there and asking for your Tribe to call out what they see you in. It is worth it.
Go Out and Find Your Genius
I believe everyone is born with a Genius but unfortunately most people have not discovered it. Discovering your Genius is a vital part of this journey of differentiation. I challenge you to consider what your Genius is by understanding what you do not like and by leveraging others to help you find it. Then turn around and help others find their Genius. Your Tribe needs your gifting, your skills, and your talents. Your Tribe needs your Genius. Go out and find it.
Go out. Make A Difference.
