Shortcuts Do Not Exist

We have been conditioned for shortcuts. We crave quick fixes and silver bullets that tend to satisfied our immediate gratification.

These quick fixes often leave us in a worse place than before.

I have grown to believe that there are no shortcuts.

As the ancient proverb says, “The longest distance between two points is the shortcut.”

The harsh reality is that you are the only obstacle in the way of achieving your dreams.

No one is coming to save you. It is on you to achieve the ideas you have set out to accomplish.

And the only way is through it. Through the hard work, through the challenging times, through the good times, just through it.

I am reminded of Dory in the movie, “Finding Nemo.” As Dory and Marlin are in search for Nemo they run into a massive ominous trench.

Dory pleads to Marlin that they need to go through the scary trench. But Marlin being the hard headed fish that he is… opts for the shortcut.

He decides that they should swim over it.

Only to be met with a devastating school of jellyfish. (rewatch the clip here)

Even in this kid’s movie we are reminded about the dangers of shortcuts.

By swimming over the trench instead of through it Dory and Marlin ended up at their destination but it almost cost Dory her life.

It is a cheesy example yet a challenging lesson.

What trench are you trying to swim over instead of through?

What shortcuts are you allowing yourself to take? and is this shortcut loving your future self?

Everything great starts small and great things take time.

If you rush the process or take the shortcut it could leave you worse off than before.

Let’s be people who refuse to take the easy route. People who do not believe in the lie of the Silver Bullet.

Instead we push through the trench. We take embrace the journey we are on.

We push through the hard times and do not fall into the trap of a quick fix.

There are no shortcuts. The only way through it is through it. You might as well start now.
