Push or Pull?

Being Motivated.

Have you ever wondered why it can feel so hard to be motivated?

Majority of people know what they should be doing yet so few are actually able to do it.

We live in a world overstuffed with information yet starving for action.

Leaving us begging for the search of motivation.

With Occam’s Razor, the search of motivation can be boiled down into two groups.

You are either motivated by trying to push something negative away.

Or motivated by trying to pull something positive towards you.

Both the push and the pull have a specific role within your motivation but they also can cast a dark shadow.

We are motivated to not drive head on into the opposite lane on the highway because we are being pushed away by the negative consequences of our actions.

We are motivated to go see our favor artist in concert because we are pulled by our love for their music and the experience to see them perform.

But motivation is complex.

We can be motivated to workout because we are ashamed of our body and are afraid (pushed) of what others might be thinking of us.

While we can also be motivated to work out because we want (pull) to be healthy and live a long life.

Often times the push and pull motivation types work together but typically one of them is carry majority of the load.

Just in the mere definition of the words push and pull, it is easier to be pulled by something than to push something away.

Imagine your vision for life being so spectacular that you are pulled out of bed, pulled into the gym, and pulled into a deep work everyday.

But we know that is not always the case.

That is where push motivation comes in.

We have to be aware of what our life will look like if we do not take action.

By envisioning the golden gates of our dreams and the cold cave of our nightmares we are able to leverage both the push and pull of motivation.

My question for you is simple:

Where do you need motivation and do you need to implement a push or a pull?

Do you need to spend a morning dreaming about where you want to be in 3 years?

Or do you need to play out what your life will look like if you prolong actions, mitigate your responsibilities, and avoid hard tasks?

Only you can answer the question.

Motivation is a hidden secret that only reveals herself to those who are willing to seek her out.

Set yourself apart by uncovering her secrets.

Go out and find motivation. Go out and make a difference.
