Take Off The Governor
The 40% Rule: Once your mind starts telling you to quit, telling you that you cannot give anymore, you have 60% left to give.
Our mind hates pain. It seeks comfort and will tell you anything to avoid discomfort.
But growth cannot come from comfort.
Our mind will often give up long before our body will give up.
Our mind is wired to keep us safe, to ultimately keep us comfortable.
Oftentimes, I view my mind as a governor set on 60 MPH on a brand-new Ferrari.
The Ferrari has the capability to drive over 200 MPH, but with the governor on, it will never reach its full potential.
Sometimes, you have to take the governor off. Sometimes, you have to test your limits.
When you are out of your comfort zone, when you are doing something hard, when you are growing, then the demons start coming out.
Your mind starts questioning everything. You see the sweet comfort in stopping.
That is when The 40% Rule kicks in.
Deep down, you know you have more to give. You know you are hitting that governor’s limit. That is the time to keep going.
That is where the real growth kicks in.
As you use The 40% Rule and you start wanting to quit, ask yourself if you are listening to your mind (the governor) or your body (the Ferrari).
The mind will lie to you, your body won’t.
Take off the governor this week.
Go out and make a difference.
