One of the hardest parts about growth is that it takes a long time.
Growth is gradual and gradual change is hard to recognize.
Can you really see the difference in you body after 1 week in the gym? No.
Yet we often get discouraged when the outcome does come like we want it to or in the time we want it to.
Maybe we get discouraged because we are focusing on outcome instead of the inputs.
If you are taking time out of your day to read this then I will assume that you are in favor of growth.
You have accepted a growth mindset and are committed to being a lifelong learner.
With that assumption, I want to focus on the inputs of growth instead of the outcome.
We can fantasize and dream all we want to about the skills, traits, or qualities we wish we had. (Outcome focused)
Or we can get to work and put in the reps needed to achieve those skill, traits, and qualities. (Input focused)
There a million different inputs we could focus on but that is just unrealistic.
Instead, I want to focus on the two highest leverage inputs for growth.
People & reading.
“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read" - Zig Ziglar
These are the inputs that we are to maximize for growth.
Everyone can teach you something new.
Yet we often do not engage or seek to ask enough questions in conversations.
Surrounding yourself with the right people is one of the quickest ways to completely change your life.
Reading. I wonder how much the world would change if everyone read just 1 book a month.
Reading allows you to learn and experience experiences that you couldn’t even dream of.
From fiction to nonfiction, reading dramatically boosts creativity, knowledge, and wisdom.
Good books are filled with priceless ideas, concepts, humor, and emotions, that you can explore every single day.
Making a habit of reading is one of the lowest hanging fruits in the growth game.
People and reading. Focus on these two inputs and watch yourself grow.
Now think about what happens if you read a good book with good people…. exponential growth?
Go out and pursue people. Go out and read! Go out and make a difference.
