Winston Churchill used to lay 200 bricks a day.
Churchill battled depression and he turned to methodical physical labor for his treatment.
He famously joked that he would lay 200 bricks and write 2,000 words everyday.
Churchill understood something that I most people don’t.
He understood the importance of silencing your mind by working with your hands.
To a degree, I believe we have all experienced this before.
Maybe on a walk, during a long drive, or most famously in the shower.
For the majority of college, I worked as a dishwasher.
For hours at a time, I would hand wash every dish that came through the service window.
My hands were busy but my mind was clear.
At the end of each shift I would write down my thoughts, ideas, and dreams into my notes app.
A couple years later, that notes page turned into my starting point for Differentiators.
We live in a loud world, where everything wants your attention.
It is hard to sit down and think deeply.
Instead of trying to force silence and deep compilation.
Try using your hands and doing something methodical.
Do a puzzle, go for a walk, mow the lawn, maybe even try laying some bricks.
Go out and make a difference.
