The Power of Purpose

I recently heard of a psychology study performed near a college town to see how much value people put on money.

The researchers placed “helped wanted” fliers on campus to attract hungry and broke college kids.

As the college kids showed up they learned that they will receive $7 an hour to dig a hole in the ground.

When their lunch break arrived the researchers, acting as their boss, told them to spend the remainder of the day filling in the hole they just dug.

The college kids spent half a day digging a hole and the other half of the day filling in the very same hole.

At the end of the day, the researchers said that they would double their pay to $14 an hour if they came back and did the same thing tomorrow.

The following day almost half of the college kids did not show up.

The researchers offered to triple the pay the following day and even less people showed up on the third day.

Money is not the best motivator. I believe the younger generation is starting to feel the weight of this challenge.

We need to be apart of something greater than just chasing after money.

We need to know how our company or job is making a difference in this world.

When was the last time you thought about your purpose? Like why you are living on this earth and the impact you want to have?

It is a hard question but one worth discovering. There is power in your purpose.

We are made for more than chasing money.

Go out and make a difference.
