The Most Important Thing

In today’s world, I am convinced that the majority of our problems derive from a simple lack of focus.

One definition of stress is the burden of NOT doing the things you know you should be doing.

Our stress builds up due to a lack of focus on a particular task.

Mark Cuban, the famous/infamous entrepreneur, credits a portion of his success to creating a plan of action every night for the next day.

He would ask himself a version of: “What is the most important task I need to get done tomorrow?”

Then he would start his day by tackling that task first.

It is simple in concept yet challenging in practice. Nevertheless, it’s effective.

If lack of focus is a reason for our stress, then use this question to help create clarity and direction.

Another way to frame this question: “What can I do to guarantee tomorrow is a success?”

For me, I have a few boxes I like to check every day. These include working out, reading, and engaging in something that is life-giving.

The goal is to make these tasks controllable and within your autonomy.

“Most people overestimate what they can do in a day and underestimate what they can do in a month.” - Bill Gates (kinda)

Avoid the trap of trying to cram too many tasks into a single day. Chances are… you’ll get another 24 hours tomorrow.

As you begin to string together multiple successful days, you’ll start to see what Bill Gates was talking about in just a month’s time.

Go out and conquer today. Go out and make a difference.
