When I have the chance to talk with someone whom I’d consider successful, I love asking them them the question, “When did you know you made it?”
Interestingly enough, the majority of the time the successful person responds by saying, “I don’t think I have made it.”
It is interesting to be sitting down with someone, who has the life that you dreamed of, and hear them say they have not made it yet.
I think we naturally possess a Destination Mindset.
We are obsessed with seeing where people have gone or where they will end up.
But I think we are focusing on the wrong part.
Instead of focusing on the destination, I want to focus on the journey.
If you think about it, the majority of your life isn’t fixated on single finish line.
Take parenting for example, there will be different seasons and stages that require extra energy but even when you kids move out you will still be parenting.
Exercising, marriage, investing, learning, writing, etc. there is no end line or “I made it” moments in these aspects of life.
The Destination Mindset is ultimately a wild goose chase.
Instead, what if we walked in the Journey Mindset?
This is where we are fixated less on the destination and more on enjoying the journey.
There are aspects of our lives that we cannot get around. This is the journey of life that everyone is on.
Why not make it enjoyable?
How can you make your exercise, your parenting, dinners, learning, or finances more enjoyable?
The goal is not the destination but learning to love the journey.
Let’s be people who learn to love the journey.
Go out and make a difference.
