When we were kids it felt like the goal of life was to laugh.
When I hangout with my nieces and nephews the only thing they want to do is play.
Their sole purpose in life is to have fun and laugh.
In Jennifer Aaker’s book, Humor, Seriously, she mentions a study that claims that the average 4-year old will laugh approximately 300 times per day.
While it takes the average 40-year old over 10 weeks to laugh that many times.
As we get older, we laughing less.
That is sad… and boring….
If you want to differentiate yourself then laugh more.
As I have been thinking about laughter and humor this year, I think it is fair to say that laughter is underrated and underutilized.
Victor Borge, a comedian from the 1900s, said, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”
Laughter is a universal language that draws people together. It breaks down walls and builds connection.
Yet we grow up and we stop laughing. I wonder if that is why we are consider the loneliest generation…
Laughter is the superpower that everyone has access to.
So let’s use it.
Let’s be people that laugh. Like really laugh.
And let’s do it. Often.
Go out and laugh more. Go out and make a difference.
p.s. It is April Fools’ Day, a great day for laughter 🙂
