In the “Self Help” space we often hear words and phrases like the power of compounding, building moment, or ROI.

These words and phrases are focused on achieving and accomplishing, and they are great for motivation.

But it is easy to become numb to these words when you hear them so many times.

With the hope of reviving our motivation I want to flip this concept upside down and instead talk about the cost of inaction.

The cost of inaction can be summed up by a simple question:

How much will it cost me if I did not act?

Some things are pretty easy to calculate the cost of.

If you do not do your taxes then the IRS will come knocking on your door to gather your taxes + interest.

Other things are little bit more challenging like your health, starting that business, or investing into deep relationships.

The goal of calculating your cost of inaction is not necessarily to be precise but instead to help bring motivation into the areas where you want more.

What is the cost of not preparing for an upcoming presentation or not seeking reconciliation with a close friend?

We can all think of thousands example about the ultimate price we are paying by remaining stagnant.

When the cost of inaction is lower than the price of the desired benefit we know what we have to do.

The cost of inaction for working out = feeling lazy, sluggish, and being out of shape.

The price of action for working out = setting aside 30 to 60 minutes aside a day and doing something active.

The cost of inaction is the silent killer in our lives today.

Our lives are made by what we do and don’t do.

It can be applied to almost every decision big or small.

Let’s be people who know and deeply understand the cost of inactions in our jobs, our families, and our lives.

Go out and make a difference.
