Cold plunges, saunas, meditation, journaling, affirmations.

These types of activities (along with many more) have gone completely mainstream over the last decade or so.

None of these activities are new, yet everyone and their mother have been doing them.

If you ask people why they do them, they typically rattle off the health benefits.

But I think there is a deeper reason behind it.

The last decade of our lives has been stressful to say the least.

From political tension, a global pandemic, wars starting, to the rise of AI…

We have been through and are currently going through a lot.

And that doesn’t even include anything from your personal life.

This tension and stress that we have been living with has affected us. Whether we’d like to admit it or not.

That is why I believe these self-care activities have become so mainstream.

Everyone is looking for a way to deal with the stress, to sooth the tension, to alter their state of mind.

Everyone has a state of mind. We go through multiple states of mind everyday.

Happy, sad, excited, angry, upset, hungry, etc.

But how aware are we of our state of mind?

And do we possess the agency to change it?

In order to change our state of mind we first have to be aware of it.

“The single greatest skill you can develop is the ability to stay in a great mood in the absence of things to be in a great mood about.” - Alex Hormozi

Hormozi uses the word skill in the quote above but this is more than a skill.

This ability to remain in a great mood even when there is no reason to be in a great mood is a superpower.

It is a state of mind.

And you control your mind.

So do the activities that help boost your state of mind.

Be aware of your current state of mind.

And find the courage, the discipline, and the grit to change it for the positive.

Not just for yourself, but for the people around you.

Go out and make a difference.
