Flooded With Content
What is your content consumption?
A Flood of Content
In 1932, Aldous Huxley published a dystopian novel titled A Brave New World.
This fictional world lives in contrast to Fahrenheit 451.
Instead of the government burning the literature that made our world, Huxley imagined a world flooded with so much irrelevant content that the people stop taking interest in substantial information.
Sound familiar?
We live in a time with access to more content than ever before.
In many ways we can consider this flood of content as a gift. We have access to Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram that feeds us engaging content.
But we end up consumed by the content we are consuming. Thoughtless scrolling has victimized so many people that we created the word doomscrolling.
We must be different. It is our job to monitor the content we are consuming so that we will not be amused to death by irrelevant content.
Content consumption is one of the most important aspects of a person’s daily life. The information you take in will tell me everything I need to know about you.
As we continue to journey on this path of differentiation, we have to differentiate the content we consume.
The next time you pick up your phone, get in your car, open your computer, or sit down on your couch, try to intentionally think about the content you are about to consume.
Is it worth it? Does it bring you life?
Does it challenge the way you think? Does it inspire you to take action?
If yes, then go for it and work to remember it.
We are closer to living in Huxley’s Brave New World then ever before.
We must be intentional with our content consumption in order to guard our most important resources, our time and attention.
I challenge you this week to be intentional about the content you are consuming. It will be difficult but it will be worth it. if you improve your consumption you will improve your life.
Go out: Be intentional with your consumption. Go out: Make a difference.
