Every now and then, we run across a quote, phrase, or story that stops us in our tracks.
A simple arrangement of words, formulated in such a way that leaves us breathless.
For me, that phrase was “Deadly Serious & Playfully Alive.”
I cannot even recall where I first saw this phrase, but it has been ingrained into my mind ever since.
I want to be deadly serious & playfully alive.
A duality of terms in most people’s’ eyes, yet not outside the realm of possibility.
We know this because of people who are able to embody these two paradoxical character traits.
Think James Bond, Jack Sparrow, Tony Stark, & even Heath Ledger’s Joker -in a dark, inverted way.
As for non-fictional characters, I am reminded of Steve Jobs, Spike Lee, and my favorite, Robin Williams.
Fictional or non-fictional, these people possess this masterful form of complete seriousness while also harnessing just the right amount of playfulness.
It is a fascinating combination that I think leads to their success within their given spaces.
Instead of falling too far on either side of the spectrum, they walk the tightrope of duality, creating a captivating & enjoyable experience.
Which side of the spectrum do you naturally fall on?
It may be time for you to get deadly serious or it may be time for you to loosen up a little bit and start becoming playfully alive.
These characteristics can be dangerous on their own but beyond powerful when used together.
Let’s use them together.
Go out and be deadly serious & playfully alive.
Go out and make a difference.
