Boredom

Unappreciated Serenity

In our world today, it is getting harder and harder to be bored.

While many people will say that is a good thing, I tend to disagree.

Not because being bored is good but because how we escape boredom is not ultimately beneficial for us.

How do we escape boredom?

If you are anything like me, then you probably escape boredom with distractions.

Netflix, Instagram, TikTok, video games, etc. the distractions we have are endless.

With access to the entire world at our fingertips why should we ever settle for being bored?

Boredom naturally has a negative connotation. Being bored is, well pretty boring.

But what if we viewed boredom as a gift? I am starting to think boredom is unappreciated serenity.

You cannot be bored and stressed at the same time. Boredom typically comes after you have solved for stress.

When stress is absent that allows space for peace, it allows space for serenity.

Now the question becomes how do we handle the serenity?

Do we numb out with distractions or do we refuel for the next wave of stress that will inevitably arrive?

I want to be someone who fights boredom with purpose instead of distraction.

Recognising that life is a gift and the time we have on this planet is too valuable to be wasted on numbing myself from this very gift.

Boredom creates space, space creates opportunity.

Opportunity to think, reflect, and dream.

What will you do next time boredom sets in?

Appreciate it or numb it?

Go out and make a difference.
